DNAfit Genetic Testing

DNAfit Genetic Testing

There is a lot going on in the nutrition world about Genetic testing and how to learn about whats going on in the genes or mutations in certain genes called Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms, frequently called SNPs (pronounced “snips”), are the most common type of genetic variation among people. Each SNP represents a difference in a single DNA building block, called a nucleotide.

DNA testing can help us determine a course of action into our current health issues but we also need to consider environmental factors and challenges such as situational, biological, toxicological and nutritional. It's about how our body has adapted to these stressor's which can then lead us to being healthy or unhealthy.

As you may be able to see here, my infograph from DNAfit, it shows many things that I have inherited from my parents e.g. my Father is coeliac and Type 1 diabetic - this shows clearly in the picture coeliac predisposition and high carb sensitivity. From my Mother, a high need for Omega 3 (inflammation pathway) and also in the top box under recover speed, high risk of injury due to a SNP on my GDFS gene which predisposes me to osteoarthritis. So even though I have certain SNPs on certain genes, this doesn't necessarily mean I am going to get oesteoarthritis or coeliacs disease. It depends now on doing the right kind of exercise, eating the right foods and less exposure to environmental toxins.  DNAfit will send you a very detailed report on which SNPs you may have, food & exercise plans, shopping lists and food planners which are suited to your DNA. I am fully trained on how to interpret these reports and can help you through to the next step.
